Illustrating with AJOTO

An afternoon drawing at London Road's Firestation - "We are made here" event where many artists, designers and makers showcased their work.

A fantastic opportunity to illustrate using Ajoto aluminium pen which was very smooth, free flowing and lightweight to sketch with. Alongside with promoting Ajoto Pen I got to promote my artwork and illustrating style.

Here are some quick sketches I did at the event:

This event was a brilliant place to network, meet designers, promote artwork also buy prints and products.

Embroidered Canvas

Recently I have been experimenting with different materials that I don't normally use as often, I decided to commit to a whole day of experimenting by enrolling myself onto a workshop "Embroidered Canvas" with Priscilla Jones.

This workshop was a chance for me to explore a mixed media approach to develop my work using paint and free hand embroidery techniques.

Workspace setup

Process of building up layers on canvas

Adding colour to the canvas first, without knowing what the final outcome will become. I started to paint a lighter, pastel style sunset background. I used a base coat of white matte emulsion mixed with some coloured acrylic paint. Once I painted the canvas I started painting on fabric, adding texture by using painting blocks made from string on mount block.

Once the fabric was completely dry it was time to stitch together and create a composition

It was great to finally get back onto the sewing machine after 2 years. Slightly rusty it took me a while to get back into it, although I loved it and hopefully I will get a chance to do more embroidery in the future.

My aim was to create a landscape styled outcome. Once I had arranged the position of the fabrics joining together I stitched them together and also added some stitches to the buildings to look like windows and panels on the building. I then added the the composition onto the painted background canvas to create a final outcome.

Countdown Studio experience

Drawing from photo reference
Fineliner, Watercolour

Watching countdown live in the studios both from the gallery and in the audience was a chance for me to see what happens behinds the scenes, when filming  for a tv game show. I also got the opportunity to meet Rachel (presenter), watch the directors, sound and vision mixers work and shadow the studio manager for the day at Dock10
